Thinking Like a Magician

"Hidden in Plain Sight" - April 2009

Canadian Bill to U.S. Bill

I'm fascinated by the idea of camouflage. It is just amazing that something can be in full view, yet functionally invisible. At the end of the movie Goldeneye, James Bond and his hottie-du-jour are standing alone in an open field speaking with a CIA operative. At the agent's command, an entire squad of soldiers covered in camo gear stand up and virtually materialize out of thin air. Even Bond was surprised!

How often does that happen to you? (figuratively of course. I suspect that you don't have many chats with CIA operatives...) We often go through our lives oblivious to the world around us. We simply miss some amazing aspects of the people and places we see every day. Personally, I'm trying to keep my eyes (and mind) open to those things that can easily pass us by.

Each week, this incredible radio show chooses a topic and invites a variety of writers, performers and artists to contribute. Since I discovered it years ago, I've recommended it to everyone I know as the best thing on the radio. Now that I live out of the broadcast range of Public Radio International, I rely on the free weekly podcast of the show and I highly recommend you do the same!
